SAP S/4HANA CLOUD

What is SAP S/4HANA Cloud?

SAP S/4HANA transition is not only about using the technology of the day. The main value underlying this transition is about having the infrastructure that can support the competition required by the day. It is an investment that increases efficiency with its simplified structure, real-time analysis and performance.

It also offers cloud option for SAP S/4HANA installation. It provides the opportunity to switch to a model where you can transfer the responsibilities required by on-premise installations, have no initial installation cost and budget as much as you use. As it is known, in on-premise installation, you use your internal servers that are under the management and responsibility of your company. In the cloud model, SAP manages the required applications, servers, network needs, storage units, runtime routines, middleware and database for you. In summary, you receive these items as Software as a Service.

The licensing model differs in both options. In the on-premise model, you make a one-time purchase in accordance with a licence metric. In the cloud model, you make a purchase for an annual or multi-year model and at the end of the period you buy a new licence term with your new metrics. From this point of view, the flexibility of the cloud model stands out.

Commissioning

Naturally, internal installations require more time and effort. It is the responsibility of the customer to plan this resource, to realise the installation and to secure it by performing tests. In the cloud model, on the other hand, since the pre-configured system logic and ready platform are used, the commissioning process is fast and stress-free.

Adaptation

From this point of view, best practice configurations defined in the Cloud model are used. In internal systems, users can make all the adaptations they want on their own initiative. It does not mean that there is no control and flexibility in the cloud model, but it is more limited than on-premise installations.

Infrastructure and Maintenance

In the on-premise model, companies are obliged to plan and install their own infrastructure. Naturally, it is necessary to have personnel to support this installation. In the cloud model, SAP does all these installation, planning and support staff needs on your behalf. System upgrades are also performed automatically at certain periods. Therefore, you always have the most up-to-date version. It can be read in a favourable sense, but the control of the system is not in the company but in SAP.

 Cost

The cost perspective varies according to the characteristics of the company. If the company already has IT personnel and infrastructure, a different approach can be considered. Considering the 24-hour system survival, maintenance and installation costs, the Cloud model often stands out with its cost efficiency at the starting point. However, calculations should be made taking into account the lifetime. The desire of companies to focus more on their own operations and the need to solve central functions through outsourcing becomes an increasingly important factor in the decision point.
